Tamiflu is also prescribed preemptively to people who have not displayed symptoms of the virus yet but have been exposed. Tamiflu has no effect on the common cold. Serious Tamiflu side effects:

  • Allergic reactions; can include hives, difficult breathing, swelling, skin rashes, and blisters.
  • Some people experience disorientating sensations, hallucinations, and erratic behavior.

  • Because of fears about a new influenza infection, many governments have hoarded the medication to quickly deal with any potential outbreaks.
  • In rare cases, people have been known to injure themselves after taking the drug.  Between 2004 and 2007, some fifteen people injured or even killed themselves shortly after taking the drug.
